Do we get echoes?

Do we get echoes off of other people and things? Do those echoes lead to dreams?

I sleep on a floor, I dream about a dog. I sleep in a girl's bed, and I dream of being a girl in school. I go to a Christmas party with my wife's family (my wife and I are separated) and I dream about her grandfather for two nights.
