"Don't expect the next moment"

I can offer dozens, maybe hundreds of great quotes from the late Zen Master Shunryu Suzuki, but one of my favorites is this:

Don't expect the next moment.

He has other similar quotes, including "practice as though this were your last moment", and another wonderful one, "Even in a snap of your fingers there are millions of instants of time."

From his writings, and seeing his pictures, I think he would have been a very interesting man to know. I'm sorry I wasn't brave enough to face my own fears earlier, which in turn led to me not having the opportunity to meet him. I hope all of his students carry on his spirit and his teachings.
