$1.35 saved is $1.35 earned

Flipped over to my right side, not really asleep, thinking about my middle sister, maybe because of bin Laden starving himself to death ...  I'm thinking ... sitting in a restaurant, sitting at a bar or counter, and someone next to me says "$1.35 saved is $1.35 earned."

I have no idea what this means, but I'm thinking to myself, "No $1.35 saved is really almost $2.00 earned when you factor in taxes." This is going on while I'm thinking about my sister.
